ABOUT MY JEWELRY
I use an ancient Korean technique called keum-bu, to apply 24k gold foil (much thicker than "gold leaf") to pure silver sheet. The gold is attached through a diffusion bond, an atom exchange at the surface of the two metals. This is achieved by applying heat as well as pressure to the metals. After applying the gold I often dip the keum-bu into a patina solution to turn the silver dark, and give more contrast with the gold foil.
Roll printing is a way of embossing a design on metal. I use a rolling mill machine to achieve the textured metal in my work. The machine consists of two rollers connected by gears. The machine squeezes the metal against a textured plate or other object such as fabric, transferring the design onto the metal.
